ACROWRX - Video Sync

📢 - INFO

This page explains how to synchronize a cockpit or ground video with your flight data in ACROWRX.

Watch: How to Synchronize video and data on ACROWRX (2:30)

Overview

ACROWRX can overlay your video with flight data so that both play back in perfect sync. The process works by picking one recognizable moment — such as a wing rock or knife-edge pass — in the video, marking it, then telling ACROWRX where that same moment appears in the data.

Step 1 — Load Your Data and Video

Open the Analysis window and load your flight data file from the left menu. Once the data is parsed and the track appears on the map, load your video file using the Video video upload button. The video upload is only available after flight data has been loaded.

📌 - TIP

Trim your video beforehand so it only covers the flight sequence. Smaller files load faster, but ACROWRX handles large videos (5 GB+) without issues.

Step 2 — Find the Moment in the Video

Press Space to start playback. Watch the video for a distinctive maneuver you can easily identify in both the video and the data — a wing rock or the first knife-edge entry works well.

When you see the maneuver, press Space again to pause. Use the Arrow Left / Right keys to step frame-by-frame until you land on the exact frame you want to use as the sync point (for example, the moment of maximum bank angle during a wing rock).

Step 3 — Mark the Sync Frame

Once you are on the correct video frame, click the Mark Mark sync frame button that appears in the on-screen button cluster on the Judge View, or press V on the keyboard. A small orange arrow appears on the video timeline — this is your sync marker.

Step 4 — Find the Matching Moment in the Data

Switch back to the map view (press M or use the map/video toggle) and scroll the data timeline until the airplane reaches the area where the maneuver occurred.

📌 - TIP

Use the strip chart to locate the exact data point. Roll rate shows the peak that corresponds to the maneuver, and Roll angle confirms the maximum bank angle matches what you saw in the video.

Use the Arrow Left / Right keys to fine-tune the data cursor to the precise matching moment.

Step 5 — Sync the Video

Click the Sync Sync video button (it appears after you mark a frame) or press Ctrl+V. ACROWRX aligns the marked video frame with the current data position. The video and data are now synchronized throughout the entire flight.

Switch back to the video, press Space to play, and verify that the video matches the 3D model and the data.

Fine-Tuning the Offset

If the sync is close but not perfect, you can nudge the video offset without repeating the full process:

KeyAction
, (comma)Nudge video offset forward (fine)
. (period)Nudge video offset backward (fine)
< (Shift + comma)Nudge video offset forward (coarse)
> (Shift + period)Nudge video offset backward (coarse)

Switching Between Video and Map

Once a video is loaded, the video and map share the same display area. Press M or click the toggle icon in the upper-right corner to switch between them. See Map View for tips on using Picture-in-Picture to view both simultaneously.
