ACROWRX - Chase View

📢 - INFO

This page provides detailed information about how to use the Chase view in ACROWRX.

Chase View

The Chase View is a unique perspective that allows you to see your airplane from any angle you want. All the visual elements present in the Judge View (trajectory, reference axis, box, markers) are also visible in the Chase View.

Camera Modes

The Chase View operates in two camera modes, controlled by the airplane-shaped button on the left side of the view:

Orbital Orbital Mode (Default)

In orbital mode, the camera orbits around the airplane. Click and drag with your mouse to rotate the angle of view. Use the scroll wheel or a pinch gesture on Mac computers to change the zoom.

Airplane Airplane Mode

When you switch to airplane mode (airplane button turns blue), the camera mounts on the airplane, providing a cockpit-like perspective of the flight. This mode unlocks additional controls:

  • Free-look Free-Look — Toggle the free-look button (turns red when active) to freely look around using your mouse while remaining attached to the airplane. When disabled, the camera looks forward.
  • VR VR Mode — For subscribers with the VR add-on, a VR button appears in airplane mode when a flight is loaded from your database. This lets you enter an immersive cockpit perspective. See the VR Mode page for full details and controller mappings.

Chase View Controls

Terrain Terrain Toggle

The terrain button (Mountain mountain icon) at the top of the left-side controls enables or disables 3D terrain rendering in the Chase View. When enabled (green), the terrain is displayed beneath the airplane, providing geographic context for the flight.

Distance Slider

A vertical slider on the right side of the Chase View controls the camera distance from the airplane. Move the slider up to zoom in closer, or down to zoom out further. This uses a non-linear scale so you can fine-tune close distances while still reaching far-away views.

Trace Size Slider

A vertical trace size slider controls the length of the trailing trajectory line, just like in the Judge View.

View Preset Buttons

To facilitate the operation of the Chase View, buttons with pre-selected views in relation to the aerobatic box are located in the lower left corner of the Chase View. These buttons quickly snap the camera to standard viewing angles (front, back, left, right, top, bottom) relative to the box orientation.

Chase View

Protractor Protractor

Using the keyboard key P or the Protractor button on the Chase View controls, you can activate a protractor in the Chase View to help you measure the angles of your airplane in relation to the horizon.

📌 - TIP

Remember, for competition aerobatics, it is not always the angle to the horizon that matters. Make sure you are focusing on the right aspects.

📌 - TIP

Another very important point to remember is that what matters is the judge's perspective of your flight. The Chase View protractor is useful for understanding the angles needed to position your airplane to make the judge's perspective as accurate as possible.
